The greatest impediment to cyclists and walkers is not distance or terrain but safety
(both real and perceived). Safety in turn, is negatively affected by increased speed of auto traffic. The probability of serious injury and death increases with increasing speeds (80% of people hit by cars traveling 40 MPH die).

Prince Avenue is zoned 35 MPH with, in general, a 10 MPH enforcement leeway. Thus, Prince Avenue becomes a 45 MPH thoroughfare.

Pictured above are dangerous crossing conditions on Prince Avenue that discourage foot and bike traffic.

Please continue to explore some of the design elements that contribute to safety issues on Prince Avenue
