The BikeAthens Bike Recycling Program (BRP) refurbishes donated bicycles and re-donates them through local social service agencies to Athenians who need affordable transportation to work, school, or services. The BRP is run entirely on volunteer labor and covers its costs by selling bikes, parts, and accessories donated by the public.

For Sale at the Shop

Just show up. There is no sign-up or application to volunteer. You don’t need experience, just a willingness to get your hands dirty.

We ask that you commit to at least four work sessions. Orienting new volunteers is time consuming for our staff, so we want to make sure we both get the most from your time with us. You do not have to commit to all work sessions during the week, just come when your schedule allows. It’s OK if you don’t get addicted to working on bikes, but we love it when people do! Maybe someday you’ll lead a volunteer session yourself.

Large volunteer groups should contact us ahead of time so that we can accommodate you.

We gladly accept bikes that are in repairable condition during our regular operating hours or by appointment. Please do not leave bikes outside our shop when we are closed. If you have junk bikes or can’t make our open hours, we get first pick of bikes left at the Athens-Clarke County Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM). Our space is limited so we may turn away donations of bikes in severe disrepair.

We welcome kids’ bikes at any time but the best time to donate them is in November and December.

We also accept bike parts and accessories, but please do not bring used helmets or used child seats.

We always seem to have a shortage of bikes for tall men but lots of donation requests from men who are over six feet tall. We appreciate all of your donations, but large mountain bikes are extra-special to us.
