UPDATE: Introduction to Bike Maintenance for Women
January 6th 7:00-8:30 p.m.
BRP Workshop, Chase St. Warehouses
UPDATE: the January 6th class is currently full! There will be more classes in the future, so if you are interested, send Laura an email and we’ll keep you updated on the January schedule!
This 90 minute class will cover knowledge that is essential to every cyclist, including: Identifying the components of your bike and how they work together; how to inspect your bike for safety and diagnose common mechanical problems; how to clean and lubricate your drive train; and change a flat tire. This class is very basic. You don’t need previous knowledge of bike mechanics, just a desire to learn.
Instructor Laura Stone has 4 years experience as a bike mechanic and 26 years as a cyclist. In addition to being a BikeAthens Board Member, she currently works as a mechanic and salesperson at Ben’s Bikes here in Athens, and looks forward to helping more cyclists feel empowered through understanding of their machines.
To allow all participants individual attention and the opportunity to work directly on a bike, the class size is limited to eight participants. A donation of $10 is suggested to offset the cost of materials and space. Email lauraann.stone@gmail.com to register.
We plan on offering the course more than once, so if you cannot make the 6th, or the class fills quickly, don’t worry—more classes will be posted soon!
