Bike Light Give-Away and Bike to Work Day Celebration
Bike to Work Day is on Friday 5/18/18 and in recognition of the event, BikeAthens has teamed up with Athens law firm Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, P.C. (BBGA) to provide free bike lights for those who need them.
Georgia law requires bikes to have a white light at night that can be seen up to 300 feet. The rear of a bike must have a red light (or red reflector) that’s also visible up to 300 feet.
The Bike to Work Day Celebration & Bike Light Giveaway will be held at BikeAthens, 1075 W. Broad Street, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18. Bike lights will be installed for free, while supplies last, so please ride (or bring) your bike to the shop. Light refreshments will also be served.
“Everyone should feel safe on Athens’ roads,” said BikeAthens executive director, Tyler Dewey. “By partnering with BBGA for this bike light giveaway, we will help folks ride bright, and we hope to prevent wrecks before they happen.”
BBGA has also created a great graphic that highlights key traffic laws for people riding and driving. We will be distributing the graphic along with the light sets.
