Here’s a diagram of the proposed plan for redesigning college station to include bike lanes. Notably the speed limit is 35mph but the lanes are quite wide at 11′, which encourages faster driving. Many on the board would like to see automobile lanes reduced to 10′ and the spare 4′ used to build a 2′ buffer to separate pedestrians and bikes from the more energetic automobile traffic. This change would not affect the project’s budget. Many of us also think that more clearly delineating the bike lanes will also enhance safety, such as by using green paint.
